Hi, I’m Brooke Stockham, Paralympic Swimmer and Ambassador for the 2007 World Disabled Water Ski Championships.

We are looking for volunteers from the Twin Cities to be part of the 8th World Disabled Water Ski Championships in May 2007. The World Championships will be held at Thuringowa Riverway and will host professional athletes from 15 nations.

The event is looking for assistance from the community for the planning phase and during the event 14 – 20 May 2007. Give some time to this exciting event, come along to Willows Shoppingtown, Saturday 9 -Sunday 10 December and sign up to volunteer.

Volunteer Roles

The 2007 World Disabled Water Ski Championships require assistance in the lead up and during the event with various operations and logistical roles.

The Local Organising Committee invite the Communities of the Twin Cities – Townsville and Thuringowa to be part of this international event and lend support during the Championships.

Volunteers can sign up for any of the roles as outlined below. Hours are flexible and rosters will be developed so that all Volunteers involved in the event are able to watch and support the Championships.

Volunteers will each receive the following in recognition of their contribution:
• Briefing and welcome event with Local Organising Committee and Australian Team
• Uniform
• Lunch and refreshments during rostered time
• Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception ticket per person
• VIP entry to view the Competition during the week of the event
• Invitation to wrap up and thank you event

Volunteer Roles

Volunteer Role Tasks
REGISTRATION
Registration Desk Personnel/Administration Duties • coordinate between the officials/judges (runner)
• assist with general inquiries at the registration desk and assist in manning the desk during the event
• Radio Custodian
Merchandise Sellers • sell event merchandise
• manage merchandise stand
• stocktakes on merchandise
VIP Sponsors/Catering • ensure all requirements are in place for VIP and sponsors area
• assist with management all sponsors onsite
• ensure all onsite sponsors requirements are actioned
• assist with checking and ensuring requirements are in order for all catering
Venue Coordinators • police name badges and restricted areas
• assist with venue/room access and allocated area access
• General inquiries and directions during the event
Transport Coordinator • ensure bus transfers are on time
• coordinate the loading and offloading of buses
• liaise with bus company/drivers as required
TECHNICAL/SET UP
Signage/Room Set Ups • ensure all relevant signage is in place for all events including social events
• ensure all rooms are set as required for use
Support to Teams • assist teams with equipment from storage to events
• assist teams in getting ready for events
Course Crew & pick up Drivers • work with technical committee and Tournament Director • carry out course changes, checks, buoy replacements • mann the pick up boats during the course of the event
Boat Mechanic/Engineer • general standby requirement for competition boats
Boat Refuelling Coordinator • manage the boat refuelling process and coordinate refuelling with boat drivers
Computer Technician • ensure all computer and technical requirements are in set up for the event
• monitor and trouble shoot any IT issues during the event

Judges Runners • results posting
• general runners
• coordinate with Registration Personnel for admin requirements
• coordinate website updates
PRESENTATIONS
Ceremonies and Awards Personnel Coordinate
